Is Morphe Cruelty-Free?

Does Morphe test on animals or sell in China?

Morphe is a LA beauty brand that was created in 2008 for creators. They inspire people to embrace their unique self and shine using vibrate colors. But is Morphe cruelty-free?

For a company to be considered cruelty-free they have to meet all of the following criteria:

  • Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals
  • Don’t allow others to test on their behalf
  • Do not sell in a country where animal testing is required.

After doing a bit of research, I found that Morphe does meet the above cruelty-free requirements and is considered to be a cruelty-free makeup brand.

Let’s look into what all of that really means and where you can buy Morphe’s products.

Is Morphe Certified Cruelty-Free?

When researching a brand’s cruelty-free status my first stop is the certified cruelty-free list. There are three organizations that give official certifications to brands around the world: Leaping Bunny, Peta, and Choose Cruelty-Free.

Morphe is not found on any of these organization’s cruelty-free lists.

Does Morphe Test on Animals?

The next step in my research is going directly to the company’s animal testing policy to see where they stand. Morphe’s policy can be found in the ‘FAQ’ section of their website. Here is what it states:

“Morphe does not condone animal testing in any way. We do not test any of our products on animals. We also do not test any of our ingredients on animals, nor do we allow our manufacturers to do so on our behalf. Instead, we choose to test drive our products on people (with their permission, of course).”

This was not enough information so I contacted Morphe directly and asked for clarification on their animal testing policy. I asked the following questions:

  • Do you test on animals at any point during the production of your products?
  • Are your ingredients tested on animals by your suppliers?
  • Does any third-party test on animals on your behalf?
  • Do you test on animals when required by law?

Morphe emailed me the following response:

“Thanks for asking such an important question. We’re happy to say that we’re cruelty-free.

That means we do not test any of our products on animals and we do not test any of our ingredients on animals. Instead, we choose to test-drive our products on people (with their permission, of course). Per our Code of Conduct, we only source natural hair that is a byproduct from the food chain or harvested in an ethical manner, not causing harm or endangering any animals.

At this time, we do not have the information on our website to present to you; however, we genuinely value your feedback and understand the importance of transparency for this topic, we will share your thoughts with our leadership team, and we hope to have additional information for you in the future.”

I emailed them again because I still wasn’t clear on a few things. This time I asked for simple ‘yes or no’ answers to my previous questions.

Morphe answered no to all of my questions.

Is Morphe Sold in China?

No, Morphe is not sold in China, a country that requires imported cosmetics to be tested on animals.

Is Morphe Owned By a Parent Company?

No, Morphe is a privately owned company.

Is Morphe Vegan?

Morphe is not a 100% vegan makeup brand but they do carry some vegan products.

“A few of our most-loved vegan products include our Fluidity Foundation, Fluidity Concealer, Morphe Highlighters, Mega Matte Lipsticks, and the James Charles Artistry Palette. Some of our products do contain non-vegan ingredients and you can check the ingredient list on every product if you have any concerns. You can also search our vegan collection page.”

Wrap Up: Is Morphe Cruelty-Free?

Yes, Morphe is a cruelty-free cosmetics brand. They have verified that they do not test their products or ingredients on animals, do not allow others to test on their behalf, and do not sell in a country that requires testing.

Therefore, Morphe will be added to my list of cruelty-free brands. You can buy their makeup via their website, Ulta, and on at their authorized Amazon store.
