Is CoverGirl Cruelty-Free?

Does CoverGirl test on animals or sell in China?

CoverGirl is a popular makeup brand found in drugstores around the world. But is CoverGirl cruelty-free or do they test on animals?

For a company to be considered cruelty-free they have to meet all of the following criteria:

  • Do not test any of their products or ingredients on animals
  • Don’t allow others to test on their behalf
  • Do not sell in a country where animal testing is required.

After doing a bit of research, I found that CoverGirl does meet the above cruelty-free requirements and is considered to be a cruelty-free makeup brand.

Let’s look into what all of that really means and what you can do about it.

Is CoverGirl Certified Cruelty-Free?

When researching a brand’s cruelty-free status my first stop is the certified cruelty-free list. There are three organizations that give official certifications to brands around the world: Leaping Bunny, Peta, and Choose Cruelty-Free.

Yes, CoverGirl is certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny.

It’s wonderful that they are Leaping Bunny certified. They do a thorough vetting process and are the gold standard when it comes to cruelty-free certifications. Honestly, my research could stop here but I want to give you as much information about CoverGirl as possible.

Does CoverGirl Test on Animals?

The next step in my research is going directly to the company’s animal testing policy to see where they stand. CoverGirl’s policy can be found on the homepage of their website. Here is what it states:

“WE TOOK THE LEAP

Beauties, we have MAJOR news: COVERGIRL does not test on animals! And now we’re Leaping Bunny approved by Cruelty Free International, which means we’re now a Cruelty Free makeup brand across ALL our products, EVERYWHERE we’re sold.

WHAT DOES “LEAPING BUNNY APPROVED” MEAN?

The Leaping Bunny approval from Cruelty Free Internationals an internationally-recognized certification for cosmetics, personal care and household product brands which are not tested on animals. COVERGIRL products have not been tested on animals, either by us or our suppliers—it’s the toughest standard in the world. To get certified, we underwent a rigorous independent audit of our global supply chain from start to finish, ensuring that ALL of our products are free from animal testing.”
